In 2017, Cao Yangming won first place at the unified entrance exam and second place in the school examination among clarinet students in his province. Cao then enrolled in the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and finished his undergraduate study with Professor Wang Lihui. After that, Cao continued to pursue a master’s degree in the USA, inspired by his strong interest in jazz and other western rhythms since childhood. In addition, Cao has won top places in wind music competitions at municipal and district levels, including first prize in the Guangzhou Middle School Orchestra Competition (performed as the principal clarinetist) and second place in the Guangzhou Middle School Band Competition. During his undergraduate study, Cao participated in many performances with pianists, violinists, flutists, and other professors and held the Principal Clarinetist position at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music Wind Band for two continuous years. Cao was also invited to support the graduate students’ graduation concerts for pianists from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and composers from South China Normal University. Cao has also instructed students and got them into Sun Yat-sen University and South China University of Technology with top marks.
