Never ever sacrifice
The MoBa was born from a desire to improve everything and sacrifice nothing. When it was released, it set its own path, but unrelenting artists took note and lead the way. Soon the whole clarinet world was turned on its head, and the MoBa became a modern classic that’s been referred to as the “Stradivarius of the clarinet world.”
Today’s MoBa blends modern CNC technology with tried and true hands-on craftsmanship, and each one is built right here in Canada. Its increased resistance and dark tone colour make it the perfect match for today’s soloists, orchestral players, and those who give their all to their craft.

I've owned a MoBa in Bb for the past couple of years during my undergrad and now that I'm going to graduate school, I decided to purchase a MoBa in A. This exceeded my expectations of how a clarinet should play. The tone is so pure and resonant and the craftsmanship is excellent.
I played the adagio from the Mozart clarinet Concerto at Doylestown Presbyterian Church last Sunday place of the usual choir anthem. The entire service was also broadcast via live stream. I received many compliments from people after the service about the beautiful sound of my MOBA A clarinet, and the clarity and focus of the tone it produced. Thank you so much for these wonderful instruments. My MOBA Bb and A clarinets both perform beautifully and It is a pleasure to play them.
Joel called me and said, "Do you want the very first production model in Cocobolo to go with your MB100 Bb?" (That was the very first production model of the first Backun clarinet.) How'd I get so lucky? It was supposed to go to Corrado, but he was stuck doing a recital with Cecilia Bartoli and couldn't make it to Vancouver. Talk about the best excuse of all time! I already owned what many players who had had told me after trying it, was the best A clarinet in history. It was one of the 4 Cocobolo prototypes Morrie made a few years before, and this MoBa M401 blew it away. Try to imagine the freedom of an A clarinet that just sings, while sounding like chocolate covered caramel. Now....envy we lucky MoBa players!
I recently bought a MoBa Bb and A clarinet. I ABSOLUTELY love them. The tone is beautiful. They have the perfect amount of resistance and I have total confidence that every note will speak exactly as I want it to. When I tried the A clarinet my very first reaction was that it plays just like a longer Bb clarinet. It doesn't have the stuffiness of every other A clarinet I've tried. IT JUST PLAYS BEAUTIFULLY. Nothing else needs be said.
I love playing my MoBa A clarinet! The sound is beautiful, the evenness across the registers is wonderful and the ease of intonation is second to none.
Just had a recital and people LOVED the MoBa
I just had a recital, and people LOVED the MoBa... they commented on the tone, and they couldn't believe how beautiful the instrument looks. I am so happy with them!
