About
Jarien Jamanila is a woodwinds specialist born and raised in San Diego, California. He moved to NYC in 2017 to attend The Juilliard School and has been a full time freelancer since graduating in 2021. He owns and performs live on all the common saxophones, clarinets and flutes. He plays the extremes like bass sax, bass flute and even contrabass clarinet! He is a new member of the Navy Commodores Jazz Band and will be taking over the baritone sax/bass clarinet/flute chair by the end of 2026! He’s recorded 2 records - the first being an album full of his original compositions entitled “Jarien Plays Jamanila”. For that one he recorded the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. His second, most recent album, “Speak Low”, is a trio project where he brought 6 instruments in to the studio and recorded 15 songs. Featured on the record is 4 songs on the Backun Alpha Bass Clarinet and the Alpha Bb Clarinet featured on the title track!
