"I chose Backun first and foremost for artistic reasons. The unique sound character of these clarinets truly corresponds to my own musical research. The instrument offers a particularly rich and distinctive tone, with a warmth, roundness, and depth that allows me to develop a very personal expressive palette. Beyond its acoustic qualities, I was also immediately attracted by the comfort and precision of the keywork. The mechanism feels extremely natural, allowing great fluidity, freedom, and reliability in playing. This choice is also part of my desire to build a strong artistic identity. In an environment where many clarinetists, particularly in France, are often associated with similar sound references, I want to develop and share a different sonic signature — a sound that is immediately recognizable and connected to my own personality, experience, and musical journey. For me, Backun represents an instrument that supports this search for a unique voice: a combination of a refined sound, exceptional craftsmanship, and the possibility of creating a truly personal artistic expression."
About
Angelo Cavarra is an Italian clarinetist, chamber musician, educator, and artistic director based in France. A graduate of the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (Master with Distinction), he also studied at the École Normale de Musique de Paris “Alfred Cortot” with Guy Deplus and refined his artistry with internationally renowned clarinetists including Alessandro Carbonare, Philippe Cuper, Ronald Van Spaendonck, and Calogero Palermo.
An active performer throughout Europe and beyond, Angelo regularly appears as a soloist and chamber musician in prestigious venues such as the Philharmonie de Paris, Salle Cortot, and the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. He is a guest artist and professor at international festivals and academies, including the Crescendo Summer Institute in Tokaj, Hungary, where he presents concerts, chamber music, and masterclasses.
Alongside his performing career, Angelo teaches clarinet and chamber music at the Conservatoire of Saint-Ouen (Greater Paris) and is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of musicians. As Artistic Director of the Alliance Artistique Européenne, he develops international festivals, interdisciplinary productions, and educational projects that connect professional artists with local communities.
A passionate advocate for chamber music, Angelo combines artistic excellence with cultural outreach, exploring new ways to bring classical music to diverse audiences while promoting creativity, collaboration, and musical dialogue.
