I purchased this Vocalise Soprano saxophone TM mouthpiece ACC-BMPMVBS-TM from Josh Adam's Wind Instrument Proshop this morning, July 6th, 2026. It made a wonderful difference in sound quality and tone as I played on my saxophone.
I’ve been searching for a replacement mouthpiece for years, I played an Otto link 7* metal mouthpiece twenty years ago, switched to a Selmer S80 for a while , a Sayos mouthpiece and I’ve also played on a Theo Wanne Essential Jazz #7 until it developed a crack from the shaft onto the table.
I’m very amazed how easy the Backun is to play. The lower, middle and high register come out with this mouthpiece. I’m playing a twenty five year old Cannonball Big Bell Global Series curved Soprano Black Lacquer with Gold Keys sweet looking horn.
I just got my mouthpiece on 2/29/25 and so far it’s been pretty great.
This is a great mouthpiece. The sound is big, full, rich, and beautiful. The projection and the intonation is great too. To top it all off, it looks great and feels great. With the right reed and technique, this mouthpiece can also be a great choice for jazz, pop, contemporary music, anything really. I love it. A big THANK YOU to Timothy McAllister and the guys at Backun for making this piece.
I tried the Backun mouthpieces for saxophone for the first time. I was looking for a sound that I could not find in the competition. From the first notes I finally found the sound that I had been looking for for years! The sound is homogeneous, precise and the high notes are particularly easy! This mouthpiece adapts to different styles and pairs well with both natural and synthetic reeds! I recommend it!
I can't wait to try the alto mouthpiece!

I've been very happy with the Selmer Concept soprano mp but wanted to see how the Backun compared. The Concept might be a hair darker sound which I usually prefer but I think what is missing is the brilliance of the overtones. The Backun lets this part of the tone shine and what I thought was a brighter tone is actually just a more resonant, full sound. I also found the altissimo register much easier to speak on the Backun, easily playing scales up to altissimo D. I also feel like the Backun is more comfortable with Legere reeds and pairs with them beautifully. Great job!

The Vocalise TM Soprano Saxophone mouthpiece combines the finest aspects of currently available mouthpieces with some unique touches of its own. It offers great flexibility for the player to find their own sound, and also great depth and warmth of sound which is crucial on soprano. More than any other mouthpiece currently available, you can find so much core and focus in what this piece offers. The shape fits a natural embouchure very well, the mouthpiece works equally well with cane and synthetic, and all of this is possible with an evenness of response across the registers. This is yet another home run from the team of Backun, McAllister, and Hawkins!
