We finally hit rock bottom

The Backun Bass Clarinet Bell is crafted from a single piece of cocobolo or grenadilla wood and is designed to enhance the timbre of the Bass Clarinet. While stock metal bells have a bright sound, they can refined with this plus-size addition, while bolstering the instrument’s overtones and projection. Available for most bass clarinets, your existing bass bell is modified at Backun to support this larger-than-life creation.

Note: Limited quantities available. Purchasing the Cocobolo Bass Bell requires the irreversible and permanent modification of your existing metal bell and u-joint. This product is exempt from our free shipping policy and turnaround time is 4-6 weeks. For full details and scheduling please contact sales@backunmusical.com.

Outstanding bass clarinet bell

I have owned my cocobolo Backun bass clarinet bell for three years now, and I think it has been worth every cent. It has tremendously increased the projection of my instrument (Buffet RC Prestige to low C), and greatly improved the overall tone quality. It also looks great--I am doubling regularly now on bass clarinet and baritone sax in a local jazz orchestra, and the bell always winds up being a topic of conversation for all the band directors and instrument repair people among our group. Highly recommended!!

Get one of these - when they're available!

Well, I splurged and had the Backun company make me a couple of these bells, and I have to say I really love them. I play a Buffet Tosca Bass, and yes, to get them - you have to order new bells from Buffet (which ain't cheap), and then you have to send those bells to Backun to work their superb magic. But what you get back is really amazing! I use the Grenadilla bell in performance as principal Bass with the Indiana Wind Symphony, and I do feel that the sound and projection are much improved with the Backun bell over the standard metal bell. The Cocobolo bell for me, is better suited for solo work. You can be the judge for your own setup, but I do feel that my sound is enhanced with both these bells, and that because I was willing to invest in a QUALITY product to try and achieve that better sound, I've found that these bells do the trick. I've allowed others to play them on their horns, and every person has thought that these bells give a better sound. I would recommend them highly, and would respectfully remind you that no matter what equipment you use, it is the thought you give to the sound you want to achieve, and the musicianship you apply to that vision in performance, that will help you achieve the sound you want. The best instrument, reeds, mouthpiece, ligature, bells, and neck that you can bring to the table will help you that much more to gain the confidence to get the kind of sound that YOU want! (and practice your scales too...!) I LOVE these bells...!
