Meet the Backun Fatboy Barrel
I am really enjoying playing on my new Backun barrel. It really opens up my clarinet and I have been anxious to play it every day since it arrived at my home! The colors I am hearing are just such an experience I cannot describe. Thank you for designing such a wonderful product!!!
Transformed my clarinet
I have an old Series 10 Selmer bought in the late 70's. It still is a good clarinet but stuffy and tight. Reeds and mouthpieces would not fix the problem. So I decided to try a new barrel, and the Backun Fatboy Standard was my choice. This barrel improved nearly every aspect of my clarinet; tone, flexibility, consistency when changing registers, expressiveness, easier leaps, and a dramatic reduction in stuffiness. I spent a couple hundred dollars on a Backun barrel and ended up buying a new clarinet. THANK YOU!!
Backun Cocobolo Fatboy Barrel
I am pretty impressed with the quality of this mouthpiece. However, it does not sound as dark as I would have wanted it to, but I may still need to break it in some more. With additional upgrades, I can see my playing capacity improving much more.
Backun Fatboy+ Cocobolo
I recently purchased a Backun Fatboy+ barrel in cocobolo to pair with my Buffet R13 clarinet and Vandoren 5JB mouthpiece. Wow! This barrel really opened up the sound and responsiveness of my horn. Being primarily a saxophonist, I'm used to more open mouthpieces and free blowing response. With the Backun Fatboy, switching from sax to clarinet is much more comfortable and natural feeling. The stuffiness is gone, and I feel like I have a setup that responds the way I'm used to having my saxes respond. I HIGHLY recommend checking out the Fatboy barrel if you're looking for a more open, responsive experience with your clarinet. Great work, Backun!
The perfect barrel, highly recommended!
I ordered the Fatboy barrel and Vocalise mouth piece and love my new sound and how easy it is to play with the Legere synthetic reeds.
