About

Born in Lalín (Galicia), he studied with Orentino Sueiro, Joan Enric Lluna, José Luís Estellés, Nancy Braytwaite y Henri Bok. He holds a higher degree in clarinet from the “Guildhall School of Music and Drama of London" and from Rotterdam Conservatorium (CODARTS), a Master´s degree in clarinet performance from the University of A Coruña, a Postgraduate course in clarinet and Bass clarinet from Rotterdam Conservatorium (CODARTS).

He has won several International competitions: Forum Music International competition in Barcelona, first prize by jury and audience in the De Link Chamber Music competition in Netherlands and first prize in “Henri Selmer Bass Clarinet Competition” in the Netherlands.

Professionally, he has been invited by a lot of ensembles, such as the “Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia”, Asturias Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Spain, Galicia Symphony Orchestra (OSGA), Galicia Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Oviedo Philharmonic, Galicia Chamber Orchestra, etc.

As a soloist, he has played with Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Galicia Chamber Orchestra, A Coruña Municipal Band, Santiago de Compostela Municipal Band, Valladares Band, Lalín Band, Silleda Band, and others.

He has acted in really well-known sceneries as the National Auditorium Madrid), L’Auditori (Barcelona), De Doelen (Rotterdam), The Pedrera (Barcelona) ,etc. and in countries as Cuba, Argentina, France, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, China, etc. Moreover, he has taken part in the main Galician festivals (Galicia Clarinetfest, Cameralia, Imaxina sons, etc…)

He has an extensive discography which includes different styles: “Doubles “ (a double contemporanean music CD), “Windsongs” (with music by David Loeb and with the famous soloist Henri Bok and A Coruña Municipal Band”, “A Berenguela" (in collaboration with Nani García, María Inés cuadrado and Xerión clarinet quartet”, “8 European pieces (taking part in the Europejska Orkiestra with music by Roberto Somoza) and “The Wind Factor” recording Bass clarinet concerts by Nani García, Van Der Roost and Evan Ziporyn.

This year 2024, he is going to release a new CD for clarinets and electroacoustic called “King Friday." Currently, on an artistic level, he combines his labour as a professor at the University of Minho and as a Bass clarinet player in A Coruña Music Band with several artistic projects as “Bassclarinet Connection Trio,” made up of clarinets (Xocas Meijide), piano (Alicia G.Permuy) and percussion (Miguel Cabana), “StringBand Quartet" and Xocas Meijide (clarinets), Galicia Clarinet Ensemble and Portuguese Clarinet Ensemble (Braga).
