About

Raül Verdú Sellés is a Spanish clarinetist and Backun Artist. Since 2022, he has been Solo E-flat Clarinetist and Second Clarinetist of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, with which he performs regularly at prestigious venues such as the Queen Elisabeth Hall in Antwerp, Bozar in Brussels, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. 

He has also collaborated with the Belgian National Orchestra and is actively involved in chamber music projects. He regularly performed with the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya and the Banda Municipal de Bilbao. Raül also teaches private clarinet and E-flat clarinet lessons, focusing on orchestral audition preparation, and regularly serves as a jury member for the final recitals of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in clarinet at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.

He pursued his formal studies in clarinet at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona, where he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees under Josep Fuster, solo clarinetist of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya. He was then awarded a CulturARTS scholarship to pursue a Postgraduate Degree in Orchestral Music at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, studying with Annelien Van Wauwe.

In 2021, Raül joined the Opernhaus Zürich Orchestra Academy, where he gained extensive experience in opera, symphonic, and chamber music, performing alongside outstanding musicians, and studied with Rita Meier, Robert Pickup, Filipa Nunez, and Markus Forrer.

Raül plays on Backun Lumière for its exceptional warm and projecting sound, its outstanding tuning, and the quality of both the wooden body and the key mechanism.
