Hawkins Signature Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece

A testament to everything learned over decades of mouthpiece craftspersonship, the Hawkins Signature Bb Mouthpiece provides artists with a clear, dark and compact tone. The ability to remain flexible with ease, while holding the core sound of the instrument, is inherent in this signature mouthpiece that is equally at home in the teaching studio, orchestral and chamber concerts and in contemporary classical playing.

*Tip from Hawkins: To re-lubricate signature mouthpiece o-rings, use a drop of almond oil or a tiny bit of cork grease on the inner wall of the barrel top tenon to improve ease of use.

Specs:

  • Medium tip at 1.08mm with a Medium facing, paired with the A-Frame Bore also found on the McGill and Shifrin Signature Mouthpieces
  • A=440-441/66mm typical barrel length or A=442/65mm typical barrel length

Suggested Reed Pairings:

Since 1998, I've preferred Legèré Reeds and have been working diligently on the equation to solidify similar results with cane. That said, while synthetic reeds have similar results when compared with cane, I recommend players use a little softer cane reed. RH

"My new personal favorite! This mouthpiece is my go-to for an easy and clear tone with a dark roundness. It represents a long-term project that I have sincerely enjoyed playing, with positive results in resonance and ring.”

- Richard Hawkins, Mouthpiece Designer and Professor, Oberlin Conservatory
