I first met Morrie when I was a very young student. From that moment on, the way I thought about the clarinet was eternally changed. Morrie’s dedication to perfectionism and superior quality over being ‘just good’ is what make’s Backun’s products so special. Whenever I pick up my MoBas and go on stage, not only do they catch the audience’s attention because of their stunning beauty, they also allow me to play with incredible freedom and flexibility, just as I would while singing. Backun Musical Services has taken the clarinet world by storm over its young life and gives us all reason to love the clarinet even more. Here’s to many more successful years!

Biography

American baritone David John Davani is known for his musicality and his innate ability to convey the intentions of composers in performance. Industry professionals have referred to him as “the future of American music.” Conductors and pianists find it easy to work with David because of his vast orchestral and chamber music experience. He is based in the New York metropolitan area and studies with Randall Scarlata and David L. Jones; he coaches with Timothy Long and Mikhail Hallak.

His performances include those with the Stony Brook Opera, the Art Song Preservation Society of New York's "Spring into Song" Series at the National Opera Center, solo appearances with the Stony Brook University Orchestra, and recitals at the Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University and at the Mannes College of Music.

David received his bachelor’s degree in music from Stony Brook University’s Honors College, where he studied both voice and clarinet as Bright Light’s Scholar for academic and performance excellence.

An accomplished clarinetist as an active soloist and chamber musician, David has worked with some of the most sought-after teachers in the world, including Ricardo Morales, Naomi and Stanley Drucker, Alan R. Kay, and David Sapadin. He began his clarinet studies at Mannes College’s Preparatory Division and continued through his undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University.

David has performed in such venues as David Geffen Hall (then Avery Fisher Hall), the Rose Studio at Lincoln Center, the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the New York Baryshnikov Arts Center, and the Staller Center for the Arts. He is, in addition to voice, a National YoungArts Foundation winner for clarinet.

He is the founder and sole author of THE Clarinet Blog, a blog dedicated to the happenings of the clarinet world, including thoughts regarding clarinet repertoire and equipment. Since its founding in 2010, THE Clarinet Blog has become one of the most widely read woodwind blogs in the world.

David began studying the clarinet at age eleven at the Mannes College of Music’s preparatory division; he was later accepted to their rigorous honor’s program on both clarinet and voice.
